Town Peterson is University Distinguished Professor at the University of Kansas, in the Biodiversity Institute and Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. His research centers on understanding distributions of species in time, space, and environmental dimensions. His work extends from classical systematic ornithology to systematics, evolutionary biology, biogeography, and disease risk-mapping. He has also been active in promoting open-data and open-access to literature initiatives, both at the University of Kansas and globally.
