Aashish Mehta

Development economist

Aashish Mehta is a development economist and Associate Professor of Global and International Studies at U.C. Santa Barbara. During the last decade, his research has focused on the connections between changes in the structure of national economies, knowledge, education, employment and inequality. He is a senior collaborator at the NSF-funded Center for Nanotechnology and Society and a researcher with the Broom Center for Demography's "work" cluster.

Previously, he served as an economist at the Asian Development Bank in the Philippines, providing analytic support for electricity sector reforms in several Central Asian countries and the Philippines and covering global and Asian macroeconomic developments. He continues to focus on Asian economies but has also published papers on U.S., Mexican and global trends.
