Abbey Kocan

Executive Director, Kupona Foundation

Abbey Kocan is the Executive Director of Kupona Foundation, a non-profit improving the lives of millions of women, newborns and people with a disability in Tanzania. Kupona works with singular focus to directly strengthen the capacity of its implementing partner, CCBRT. With an eye toward transparency and long-term sustainability, Kupona mobilizes funding and technical expertise, directing these resources to the people and programs in greatest need.

After nearly a decade of “climbing the ladder” in the for-profit sector, Abbey had the opportunity to live in Tanzania and work with CCBRT for five months. Struck by the impact CCBRT was having upon individuals and communities, the challenges that existed, and the magnitude of change that was possible, Abbey remained connected to Kupona following her return to the USA, taking over leadership of the organization in 2013.

Abbey holds a masters’ degree in Business Administration (MBA) from Emory University’s Goizueta Business School and an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Spanish from Bucknell University.
