Alexis Buryk joined The New York Times in 1977. She managed several categories of business as sales representative, Managing Director and Vice President, leading to a promotion to Senior Vice President of Advertising in May 2005. During her tenure, she was responsible for the sales and marketing efforts of a 400 person staff. She retired in December 2012 after 35 years with The New York Times. Since her retirement, Alexis has worked tirelessly to raise money for a cure for Late Onset Tay Sachs. Her 28 year old twin daughters were diagnosed with this rare genetic disorder in November 2014. Her efforts have resulted in over $260,000 donated to the National Tay Sachs Foundation for the Allie and Katie Buryk Research Fund. Four research grants have already been funded and she will continue to pursue a cure.
