A.Kadir Yildirim, Ph.D., is a research scholar at Rice University's Baker Institute for Public Policy. His main research interests include democratization, political economy, political Islam, the politics of the Middle East and Turkish politics. Yildirim has published or has forthcoming publications in journals such as Party Politics, Politics & Religion, Democratization, Middle Eastern Studies, Insight Turkey, Sociology of Islam and Contemporary Islam. His opinion pieces have appeared in The Washington Post, Al Jazeera and Today’s Zaman. He has taught courses on comparative politics, politics of the developing world, Turkish politics and the Middle East. Previously, Yildirim was a faculty member at Furman University and a postdoctoral fellow in regional political economy at Princeton University’s Niehaus Center. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the Ohio State University, where he also earned an M.A. degree. He received his B.A. from Bilkent University
 in Ankara, Turkey.
