Ama Owusu-Darko

Arizona State University student, MasterCard Foundation Scholar

Ama is from Accra, Ghana. She is one of the first 10 MasterCard Foundation Scholars studying at Arizona State University. Her faith in the power of education has intensified throughout this experience.

Ama has benefitted from several educational opportunities. As a secondary school student in Ghana, she was selected for the Kennedy Lugar Youth Exchange and Study Program. There, Ama participated in several conferences and workshops, including one sponsored by Iowa State University's Program for Women in Science and Engineering. These events helped Ama determine her career path.

At ASU, she is studying health science in order to pursue a career in public health. Ama is currently conducting research on obesity. She volunteers at the Arizona Science Center, where she helps children understand how science relates to their daily lives. Her goal is to teach women and children in Ghana to lead healthy and happy lives.
