Andy Schmookler is an author, former Democratic nominee for Congress, and talk radio philosopher.

Dr. Andrew Bard Schmookler is an award-winning author, political commentator, talk radio philosopher, and teacher. He was the Democratic nominee for Congress from Virginia's 6th District in 2012. He has just launched a campaign called "Press the Battle," whose purpose is to get the national conversation to focus on the central realities of the national crisis playing out in the American political arena. Dr. Schmookler's books include The Parable of the Tribes: The Problem of Power in Social Evolution; Out of Weakness: Healing the Wounds that Drive Us to War; The Illusion of Choice: How the Market Economy Shapes Our Destiny; Sowings and Reapings: the Cycling of Good and Evil in the Human System; and Debating the Good Society: A Quest to Bridge America's Moral Divide. His op/ed pieces have appeared in the Washington Post, the Christian Science Monitor, the San Francisco Chronicle, and other newspapers around the country. He graduated from Harvard, summa cum laude, in 1967, and he received his doctorate from the University of California at Berkeley and the Graduate Theological Union in a program specially created to accommodate his original theory of the evolution of civilization
