Annelle Sheline is an American PhD candidate of political science at George Washington University. A year living in Nicaragua as a teenager baptized her for a life of travel. After graduating from NYU's Gallatin School, she moved to Egypt and later Yemen to work as a journalist. Her dissertation studies the unintended effects of efforts by Arab monarchies to promote so-called "moderate Islam."
