After graduating The George Washington University in Washington, DC, she worked for several national and international non-profit organizations, including the Phelps Stokes Fund, America Scores, and National 4-H Council. She completed a Fulbright in Vietnam and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction at the University of Montana, where she also volunteered with Americorps. She served as an Assistant Professor of English at the Community of College in Baltimore County for eight years, and led the college’s efforts to incorporate Global Studies and the Accelerated Learning Program into the curriculum. In 2016, she joined the Writing Studies faculty at the University of Washington-Tacoma.
