Arthur Allen is a writer and journalist based in Washington DC, author of the recently published <em>Vaccine: the Controversial Story of Medicine's Greatest Lifesaver</em> (WW Norton). He’s a regular contributor to <a href="http://www.slate.com">Slate.com</a> and has written for many magazines including the <em>New York Times Magazine, Washington Post Magazine, New Republic</em> and <em>Mother Jones</em>. Allen graduated in Development Studies at UC-Berkeley and was a foreign correspondent in El Salvador, Mexico, France and Germany before returning to the U.S. in 1995 and rekindling his undergraduate interest in biology by becoming a science writer.
