Avelino Maestas is a former journalist who reported on politics in southern New Mexico. Most recently he served as community manager for the Sunlight Foundation and OpenCongress.org.
He spent four years covering local news in Silver City, New Mexico, as a Staff Writer for the Silver City Daily Press, one of the last independent newspaper operations in New Mexico. Prior to that, Avelino was the News Director for KNFT-AM/FM, heard throughout southwest New Mexico and southeast Arizona.
