Avery Grey

Intersex/Human Rights Activist

Avery Grey is an intersex genderqueer-trans person of color and an intersectional human rights activist. They have worked with Metro-Detroit Political Action Network serving as their LGBTQIA+ co-chair, intersex representation and alongside Intersex Chicago as a contributing member to activist efforts within the Chicagoland area. Avery Grey was the first patient to be recognized as intersex by the University of Michigan Medical Records Department. They are a published content contributor in Sex and Gender: A Reference Handbook (Contemporary World Issues), a freelance journalist, blogger, and a social political organizer. Avery Grey marched as chant leader for Slut Walk Detroit 2017 promoting body autonomy and consent, had served as a volunteer representing Metro-Detroit Political Action Network at The Detroit Women's Convention 2017, and became the first intersex public figure to speak at Chicago City House Council.
