Azizullah Royesh

Marefat High School, Kabul, Afghanistan

Azizullah has overcome incredible odds to educate himself and fellow Afghan refugees, setting up several schools. Having fled Afghanistan for the second time in 1994, he established the Marefat School for Afghan Refugees in Pakistan, which moved back to Kabul when the Taliban fell in 2001. In 2014 the school had 4000 students, 44% of which were girls. Aiming to rebuild the education system in order to help build a new nation, Azizullah has authored various civic education textbooks. Aziz is a Yale World Fellow.
