Barbara E. Royal, D.V.M.
Author and veterinarian, Dr. Barbara Royal, founder and owner of Royal Treatment Veterinary Center in Chicago, is an internationally-renowned pioneer in integrative veterinary medicine, nutrition and physical rehabilitation. Dr. Royal has a thriving practice for pets, consults at wildlife rehab centers and several zoos. She is the first known veterinarian to perform acupuncture on a zebra.
Dr. Royal is also the go-to veterinarian for Oprah Winfrey’s dogs.
After graduating with high honors from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois, Dr. Royal became certified in Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine through IVAS, and studied Advanced Western & Chinese Herbal Medicine and Nutrition through Tufts University, and Animal Physical Therapy & Healing Techniques at the University of Tennessee.

She is a on the Board of Directors and is President Elect for the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association, and the AHVMA Foundation which promotes scientific research into alternative therapies, and she is on the Board of Directors for PAWS Chicago the city’s largest no-kill humane and adoption center. A nationally-published author and international lecturer she is regularly featured in the media for her expertise. She lives in Wilmette, Illinois with her husband, two children, and an assortment of wildly healthy animals.
