Brett A. Sokolow

President and CEO, The NCHERM Group, LLC

Brett A. Sokolow is one of the leading national experts on higher education law as well as high-risk campus and school prevention, health and safety issues. He is widely considered to be one of the foremost experts on Title IX compliance in the US.

Sokolow serves as the President and CEO of The NCHERM Group, LLC, one of the nation’s largest higher education law firms and risk management consulting practices. The NCHERM Group serves as legal counsel to more than seventy-five (75) colleges and universities, and has served as counsel to more than 200 campuses since the firm was founded in 2000. In addition to its legal representation, The NCHERM Group provides consulting services to an additional 400+ campuses and schools each year. 

Mr. Sokolow is a risk management consultant, author, editor, and higher education attorney admitted to the Pennsylvania and New Jersey bars. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in East Asian Studies from the College of William and Mary (1993), and a Juris Doctorate from the Villanova University School of Law (1997). In addition to his law and consulting roles with The NCHERM Group, Sokolow’s other professional affiliations include:

• Sokolow is the Board Chair, Executive Director Emeritus, founder and 2009-2010 President of NaBITA, the National Behavioral Intervention Team Association (www.nabita.org), a membership organization of 250 colleges, universities and schools addressing violence prevention and threat assessment.
• Sokolow is the Executive Director and founder of ATIXA, the Association of Title IX Administrators (www.atixa.org), a membership association of more than 5,000 campus and school Title IX administrators.
• Sokolow was founder and a board member of SCOPE, the School and College Organization for Prevention Educators (now subsumed into ATIXA), and is a founder and board member of SACCA, the Student Affairs Community College Association (www.sacca.org).
