Bryan Parker is an accomplished business person and active servant of his community.
Bryan is an Oakland Port Commissioner and in 2014 Bryan ran for Mayor of Oakland, Ca. The campaign received a high degree of grassroots support, media acclaim and endorsements.
Bryan Parker, a passionate community leader and business executive, envisions an environment in Oakland, and the East Bay more generally, that fosters economic recovery and security while empowering families.
As an experienced businessman, a top executive in his field, Parker possesses the know-how to balance the budget and put Oakland and the local economy’s finances back on the right track. .Parker is a member of the Executive Leadership Council. He was also a member of the Hilton Group, a designation for the top executives at Davita Healthcare.
Parker’s background is in operations, law and finance. He has a proven track-record of managing and growing budgets and, during tough economic times, Parker led operations and development in the private sector, managing and growing multi- million dollar budgets and creating local jobs.
At Affinity Media, Parker took a money losing operation and helped grow it into a $100 million thriving enterprise with operations in the United States, China and Korea. Most recently, Parker headed the Internal Growth and Real Estate operations at DaVita, a Fortune 500 company. At DaVita, he led a strategic turnaround of the business and grew it from a $400 million business to a $800 million division.
Parker is deeply involved in serving the East Bay Community through oversight and leadership work that supports the local economy and education. Parker formerly served as the Chair of the Workforce Investment Board, and currently serves as a Commissioner with the Port of Oakland, a member of the Board of Trustees for Holy Names University and a member of the Board of Directors of Alameda County Meals on Wheels.
Parker’s persistent efforts in philanthropic fundraising and his work with community groups demonstrate a passion for public service. Parker is involved with a variety of groups including: 100 Black Men of the Bay Area, Boys & Girls Club, Aspen Institute, National Kidney Foundation and Alpha Phi Alpha. Parker is also a past Board member for the Alumni Association of the University of California at Berkeley and an active supporter of Oakland public schools.
Parker was raised by a single mother in Northern California. Watching his mother work several jobs to support his education, Parker learned that her sacrifices were motivated by a strong belief in the value of education. His mother is a product of the civil rights era and was the first student to integrate her high school in rural south Georgia. His mother’s value system became core to the passion he now has for ensuring that all children have the opportunity to realize their full potential.
After losing a sister to homicide, Parker dedicated himself to making sure fewer families experience violent crime and its impacts. Parker wants to lower violent crime in Oakland through an integrated solution that includes honoring victims and their families, improving relations between the community and police, adding more police officers, fostering healthier communities, improving education and providing jobs.
Parker holds a BA in Political Science and Economics from University of California at Berkeley where he was a Student Senator. He also holds a JD from the NYU School of Law, where he was President of his class. Parker is passionate about sports and is an avid supporter of the Oakland sports franchises.
