Emmy-winning Chief National Correspondent of the CBS Evening News
Byron Pitts is Chief National Correspondent of The CBS Evening News and Contributing Correspondent of CBS' 60 Minutes.
He won national Emmy Awards for his coverage of the 9/11 attacks and the 1999 Chicago train wreck. He is also the recipient of four Associated Press Awards and six regional Emmy Awards. He was voted Best Journalist of the Year in 2002 by the National Association of Black Journalists
Pitts is the author of Step Out on Nothing (St. Martin's 2009), an inspirational autobiography chronicling his rise from a disadvantaged youth.
Pitts was born in 1960, in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1982 with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism and speech communication. He lives with his wife in New Jersey.
