Candace Bond-Theriault (@attorney_bond) is the Senior Policy Counsel for Reproductive Rights, Health and Justice, and the Democracy Project Director at the National LGBTQ Task Force where she primarily builds capacity and encourages engagement between the Reproductive Rights, Health & Justice movement and the LGBTQ movement for equality and liberation through a black feminist lens. Bond-Theriault primarily builds coalition amongst the aforementioned communities to fight against religious exemptions at the federal and state legislative, administrative and judicial arenas. Her other priority areas include abortion access, contraceptive coverage, HIV/AIDS prevention & PreP awareness and the promotion of nondiscrimination measures that are inclusive of race, sex, gender, economic justice, progressive voices of faith and reproductive health, rights & justice. Previously Bond-Theriault worked as a Legislative Assistant in the ACLU’s Washington Legislative Office. In this capacity, she worked to advance the organization’s civil liberties and civil rights agenda in Congress and the executive branch by focusing on LGBT Rights, Reproductive Rights and Women’s Rights. Bond-Theriault received her LL.M. degree from the American University Washington College of Law in gender and legislation, her J.D. degree from North Carolina Central University School of Law and her B.A. in Human Rights with a focus on race, gender and sexuality from the College of William and Mary. Candace enjoys cooking, podcasts and is studying to become a certified yoga instructor. She resides in Arlington, Virginia, with her husband and puppy.
