Founder and President of Hourglass Cosmetics
Hailed as “the world’s youngest beauty-biz veteran” by Glamour Magazine in 1999, Carisa Janes was one of the original members of Urban Decay’s creative team. In 1997, Janes launched a whimsical cosmetics line for the Body & Soul boutique chain. Janes next formed ISA Design, a beauty consulting firm, with clients that included several well-known global brands. When Sugar, a teen-oriented apparel brand, enlisted her services, Janes designed a beauty line that was both witty and user-friendly. Sensing a gap in the market for a new type of luxury makeup line, Janes launched Hourglass Cosmetics in 2004. Hourglass fuses skincare technology with high-quality makeup. Its cult products help create a flawless, ageless and luminous complexion. “I’m essentially creating products for myself,” says Janes, “products that have lasting results.” The sleek bronze-colored collection uses only the finest constituents, including clinical levels of rejuvenating ingredients, and innovative packaging. “I’ve also excised hazardous elements like parabens, phthalates and fragrances,” Janes adds. Hourglass is available at Sephora and Barneys.
