Media Relations Consultant and former TV anchorwoman

A Washington, D.C.-based media relations expert with an extensive network of top-tier journalists at network, cable, print and online media outlets, Carol Kaplan is a veteran broadcast journalist who lives and breathes with the news cycle and knows how to get her clients into the headlines -- the right way. A highly experienced on-the-record spokesperson, Ms. Kaplan navigated multiple issue land mines throughout the U.S. banking crisis (2008-2010) while managing media relations for the American Bankers Association, the nation's largest and most powerful banking trade association. She is known for building and maintaining solid working relationships with journalists and is frequently quoted. As a consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton, Ms. Kaplan served as a communications strategist for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, managing media relations for Cyber Storm II, a biennial cybersecurity exercise involving numerous foreign countries, multiple federal agencies, several U.S. states and Fortune 500 companies. Prior to her career in public relations, Ms. Kaplan was a TV news anchorwoman and reporter at television stations across the U.S. Her reports appeared on major network news outlets including CNN (Wolf Blitzer), CNBC (Geraldo Rivera), and MSNBC. Her work earned an Emmy, numerous Emmy nominations, and several awards from the Associated Press, the Public Relations Society of America, American Women in Radio and Television, and the Federal Executive Board. She reported extensively on the FBI discovery of the first known domestic al-Qaida terrorist cell. Ms. Kaplan earned a master’s degree in Communication: Journalism and Public Affairs from American University where she authored her thesis, “U.S. Vulnerability to Domestic Terrorism,” warning of the nation’s lack of preparedness against domestic terrorist attacks – nearly two decades before September 11th.
