Carolynn Carreño

Carolynn Carreño would like you to know that she is not a food writer, just that she finds herself writing mostly about what people (herself included) eat. She has written features for magazines including Food & Wine, Bon Appetit, Saveur, and Travel & Leisure, and personal essays for the New York Times Magazine, the Los Angeles Times Magazine, Self, Glamour, and Gourmet, among others. She has been nominated for three James Beard Journalism Awards and won the award for Best Newspaper Feature Writing for a story (on, of all things, bullion cubes) published in the Los Angeles Times. She has written and co-authored numerous cookbooks including, most recently, the much-acclaimed cookbook-memoir hybrid, Eat Me: The Philosophy and Food of Kenny Shopsin (Knopf 2008). She is currently working on her own memoir in addition to the ongoing stream of magazine stories. Why the blog? Because not-so-deep down, she believes she was meant to be a columnist.
