Cecilia Brainard, also known as Cecilia Manguerra Brainard, is the author and editor of 20 books, including the novels, When the Rainbow Goddess Wept, Magdalena, and The Newspaper Widow. Her other books include short story collections, and collections of essays. She has edited a number of books, including Growing Up Filipino I and II. She is the recipient of several awards including a California Arts Council Fellowship in Fiction, a Brody Arts Fund Award, several USIS grants, a Special Recognition Award for her work dealing with Asian American youths, and others. She has lectured and performed in worldwide literary arts organizations and universities including UCLA, USC, University of Connecticut, University of the Philippines, University of Santo Tomas, PEN, Beyond Baroque, Shakespeare and Company in Paris, and many others.
