Cynthia Gibbs-Wilborn

Head of School, Beauvoir the National Cathedral Elementary School, Washington, D.C.

Cynthia Gibbs-Wilborn currently serves as Head of School at Beauvoir School, an Early Childhood/Elementary School in Washington, DC. She has close to twenty-five years of experience as an administrator in independent schools, and obtains her greatest fulfillment in environments where inquiry and project-based learning experiences are deeply infused into the program. She believes that teaching involves a lifelong process of learning about new philosophies and strategies, cultures, communities, and most importantly, learning from children. Cynthia brings a unique perspective to her role as Head of School. She and her husband are also the parents of "tweenage" twins. Cynthia often finds her conversations with parents are quite comfortable and organic as a result, since many of the challenges and questions parents face during the younger years are similar. “We can all find common ground if we can trust one another and talk openly about it,” she comments. Cynthia enjoys sharing articles to offer her views as both parent and educator. Cynthia is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and received her Masters in Elementary Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She pursued doctoral work at the University of Maryland, College Park prior to becoming a Head of Lower School for two schools located in Washington, D.C. and Charlotte, N.C. In addition, she served for five years as Head of School at Hanahau‘oli School in Honolulu, HI. In her spare time, Cynthia cherishes family time, enjoys water sports, reading, hiking, traveling, and the scarcely found nap.
