Charles W. Baker, Ph.D.

Executive Vice President and Chief Science Officer, The Sugar Association, Inc.

Charles W. Baker earned a B.A. in biology from Northeastern University in 1967, and was awarded a Ph.D. degree in biochemistry by Purdue University in 1973. Dr. Baker’s career began an assistant professor in the Department of Cereal Science at North Dakota State. Soon after he joined the brewing industry in 1977 as manager of brewing research and development for the Pabst Brewing Company, eventually rising to administer the technical and research programs of the Stroh Brewery Company, Stroh Foods Inc., and the Stroh Ice Cream Company.

In January 1990, Dr. Baker was appointed Vice President Scientific Affairs and officer of The Sugar Association, Inc. where he is responsible for coordinating Association scientific and research programs. He is currently the Association’s Executive Vice President and Chief Science Officer.

Dr. Baker has been the U.S. member on the World Sugar Research Organisation scientific committee since 1990, serving as its chair from 1995 through 1999. In addition to serving on various academic advisory boards, he is a member of various honorary and professional organizations.
