Cheryl Howard Crew was born and raised in Southern California. Although she grew up with two sisters, she admits to being a tomboy at heart thanks to her adventurous father. A chemical and aerospace engineer,an astronomer, a marksman, and a mountain climber, Cheryl’s father (at the time of his death) was also purported to be the oldest competitive aerobatic pilot in the world

Her dad also influenced her love of travel. Cheryl has always been fascinated by various cultures and their histories, and has traveled extensively throughout Europe, as well as Japan, New Zealand, Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Egypt, South Africa, Argentina, Uruguay, Australia, and Mexico. Her travels to Central Asia in 1996 and ‘97 inspired her to write IN THE FACE OF JINN.

Cheryl discovered writing after receiving a B.A. in Psychology from California State University at Northridge. After completing a two-year writing fellowship at the American Film Institute, she landed an agent followed by development deals and an optioned screenplay. IN THE FACE OF JINN is her first published work of fiction.

Since 1975, Cheryl has been married to her high school sweetheart director Ron Howard. Together, they raised their four children in Los Angeles and Connecticut and have just recently welcomed the birth of their grandson, Theodore Norman Howard-Gabel. This summer, Cheryl will be traveling to the Caucasus and Russia to research her next novel.
