A Son of Baltimore and a Godson of Philadelphia, The Rev. Charles Lattimore Howard, PhD is the University Chaplain at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to his current position he served as chaplain in both hospice and hospital settings and as a street outreach worker to individuals experiencing homelessness in Philadelphia. Along with various articles and essays he is the author of The Souls of Poor Folk, The Awe and The Awful, Black Theology as Mass Movement, and Pond River Ocean Rain. He shares life with his beloved wife and their three daughters. He sees his vocational calling to be to work for a communal increase in joy, peace, justice and love via words and presence.
