Christian Chiakulas was born and grew up in and around Chicago. He began writing at the age of 12 thanks to a middle-school English teacher who held short story competitions in his class. He studied fiction at Columbia College Chicago and has been active in the Bernie Sanders campaign, the Illinois Green Party, and with Democracy Spring.
