Christopher Gordon, M.D.

Medical Director, Advocates, Inc.

Dr. Gordon is a community-based psychiatrist working in Framingham, Mass., as the Medical Director of a leading non-profit agency, Advocates, Inc. He is interested in collaborative, person-centered, strength-based care, particularly for people dealing with substantial psychiatric challenges. He has been on the faculty of the Massachusetts General Hospital for 35 years, and is an Associate Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.

His current projects focus on a Medication Optimization Program, which assists people coping with substantial psychiatric difficulties to refine, minimize or eliminate psychotropic medications when it is safe to do so; and on developing a new program, The Collaborative Pathway, which offers young people (and their families) experiencing extreme psychiatric states an opportunity to deal with their challenges in a framework that maximizes shared decision making. Dr. Gordon has authored or co-authored numerous scholarly papers and book chapters on topics related to the doctor-patient relationship, collaborative formulation and crisis intervention.
