Claus Stig Pedersen

Head of Corporate Sustainability

Claus Stig Pedersen has been professionally engaged in sustainability for more than 25 years. One of the pioneers in the development of Life Cycle Assessment methodologies and sustainability concepts for business, he is driven by the vision of combining “good for the world” with “good for business”. As Head of Corporate Sustainability & EMEA Public Affairs at Novozymes, the world leader in biological solutions, he lives that vision every day. He is currently serving as Liaison Delegate to the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, and represents the company in the UN Global Compact LEAD initiative, as well as serving in the Sustainability Council to Ingersoll Rand and on the Advisory Board to Sustainable Brands. Before joining Novozymes, Claus lead the Global Sustainability and Quality activities at Hartmann Packaging Group. Additionally, he has served on several sustainability boards and councils. Claus has been engaged with the development of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) since the very beginning at Rio+20 in 2012 - and he has worked to align Novozymes’ corporate purpose and strategy into the direction set by the SDGs. Launched in January 2015, Novozymes’ new purpose and Partnering for Impact strategy put the SDG agenda directly into the heart of Novozymes’ core business and its innovation pipeline – setting a direction for commercial growth. Claus and his team have developed a strategic framework for business development and innovation based on the goals – being one of the first companies to communicate their sustainability efforts according to the SDGs, while aligning core business accordingly. In 2016, UN Global Compact – presented by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki-moon – recognized Claus as Pioneer For Sustainable Business Strategies: https://www.unglobalcompact.org/sdgs/sdgpioneers/2016/claus-stig-pedersen
