Clemens Wergin became a contributing opinion writer for The International New York Times in the fall of 2013. Mr. Wergin is the foreign editor for the German newspaper group, Welt, including Die Welt, Welt am Sonntag, Berliner Morgenpost and Hamburger Abendblatt. In addition to overseeing the newspapers’ foreign policy coverage, he writes the foreign policy blog Flatworld.

Before joining the Welt group in 2007, Mr. Wergin was an editor for the opinion section of the daily newspaper Der Tagesspiegel. In 2003 he was an Arthur F. Burns fellow with the opinion section of The Chicago Tribune, where he wrote editorials and opinion articles.

Mr. Wergin has a master’s degree in Islamic studies and history from the University of Hamburg. He lives in Berlin.
