Corvette Hunt

Corvette Hunt, born Edward Hunt on October 12, 1970 in Denver, Colorado, left for New York City in 1993 with a dream of becoming something different. Once there, he earned a scholarship to the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, where he studied modern dance for two years, until discovering a more unconventional, but more appropriate medium: drag. He as a she quickly became one of the luminaries of the ‘90s club scene, working as a hostess, door girl, DJ, and dancer at such legendary clubs as The Roxy, Jackie 6O, Limelight, The Tunnel, and Sound Factory.
In 1996, Corvette began working for downtown fashion maven and Sex In The City stylist Patricia Field, designing wild hair creations for commercial campaigns (Absolut Vodka and Mercedes Benz), R&B singers (Monica, Toni Braxton, Puff Daddy, Queen Latifa, Lil Kim, and Foxy Brown), actresses (Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, Sigourney Weaver, and Isabella Rossellini), supermodels (Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell), fashion designers (Dolce & Gabanna and Marc Jacobs), a fine artist (Cindy Sherman), and a debutante heiress (Paris Hilton).

The November 2000 issue of Paper Magazine featured Corvette as one of the bright new faces of nightlife. That same month, he/she landed a job as a wig stylist for Madonna’s promotional showcase at the Roseland Ballroom, which led to joining her glam team on her 2001 Drowned World Tour. After two mini-tours with Jennifer Lopez and the B52’s, Corvette landed a stint on the Bumble and Bumble fashion week hair team, and was then given a chair at the infamous grungy rock and roll hair salon Mudhoney, where she/he quickly gained a loyal following and was named one of the best hairstylists in the city by Time Out New York.

In 2008, Corvette returned as the head of the glam team for Madonna’s record-breaking Sticky and Sweet tour, which performed sold-out shows in 59 cities. In 2010, he partnered with East Side Ink and longtime stylist colleague Bethany Paul to open Graceland, a hair salon/tattoo parlor collective in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Corvette Hunt lives in Brooklyn Heights with his husband, Aaron, and is writing a memoir.
