Crista Cloutier

Artist

Actively involved in the contemporary art world throughout her career, Crista Cloutier is internationally recognized as a writer, photographer, curator, historian, artist, and documentary filmmaker.

Until 2007, Crista was the Director of Segura Publishing Company, a collaborative fine art studio headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona. In her ten years of leading the company, she collaborated in the creation of original artwork with some of the most significant artists working today. This work is now included in collections such as New York’s Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum, Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, and the Chicago Art Institute.

In addition to her work in art, Crista has her Master’s Degree in Religious Studies and has written on various religious topics both historical and contemporary. She pens own blog, Simply Divine, and she is also a Contributor to the Belief Blog for The Guardian in the UK.

In 2004, the renowned French art press Gallimard published Crista’s research on 19th century spiritual photographs in their hardcover book to accompany the exhibition Le Troisieme Oeil for Paris’ Maison Européenne de la Photographie. Yale Press published the work again the following year for The Perfect Medium, an exhibition of the same name that showed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2005.

As well as directing the award-winning gallery at the Segura studio, Crista has been invited to curate exhibitions at galleries and museums throughout the country. She has lectured on issues related to both historical and contemporary art. Crista was also a producer of the documentary Pasa un Angel, which was honored with the top award at the San Francisco International Film Festival and subsequently screened at the United Nations Conference Against Torture in Washington DC before showing to international audiences.

Crista has led fundraisers for John Kerry’s 2004 Presidential election and the Audubon Society as well as serving on the boards of several others. She has acted as a consultant for many special events including Dow Jones, The Wall Street Journal, and UBS as well as leading the Association of Art Museum Directors on an unforgettable tour of James Turrell’s Roden Crater.

In 2008, Crista left the art world behind and ran away to the south of France. There, she concentrated on writing about issues related to world religions, along with her own creative work.

Today, Crista Cloutier divides her time between Europe and the United States. She continues to write about topics surrounding world religions and spirituality, and to make art. She teaches artist workshops and also acts as a consultant.
