David Barton

Owner of DavidBartonGym

Behind the massive success of DavidBartonGym is David Barton himself - a cutting-edge entrepreneur at the forefront of fitness. An Ivy League educated body builder with a personality that has attracted an eclectic clientele, Barton’s combination of charisma, fitness expertise and business savvy has translated into the phenomena of DavidBartonGym. Heralded as New York’s best personal trainer, Barton parlayed his fitness expertise into a brand that has revolutionized the workout.

New York born and raised, Barton, 43, was a fitness enthusiast from an early age. Barton made his first gym visit at 12 and was instantly hooked on working out, often spending subway rides doing pull-ups. He graduated from Cornell with a B.S. in human development, competed as a champion body builder and worked as a premier personal trainer before founding DavidBartonGym, transforming his love of fitness into a hugely successful business. Barton considers himself an architect and sculptor of bodies, promising through his trademark tagline that he will help you “Look Better Naked.” Barton creates a fitness scene in his gyms, where clients not only look better naked but feel better, fusing form and function through his innovative training programs.

DavidBartonGym, now fifteen years old, is a fixture among top fitness brands. Currently, David Barton operates three New York City locations; one in the former YMCA in Chelsea, one on the Upper East Side, and a third on Astor Place in the East Village; a 30,000 square foot mecca on Chicago’s Riverwalk; and two Miami outposts at Flamingo South Beach and the celebrated Gansevoort South Resort. Showing no signs of slowing, plans are underway for DavidBartonGym to soon invade Las Vegas, Seattle and Los Angeles.

Once a fixture on the nightlife scene, Barton now enjoys a quieter life as a family man, spending many nights watching classic movies with son Bailey. Barton works regularly with several charities, including sponsoring the annual toy drive for the Children’s Hope Foundation and serving as a fitness consultant for Health Corps, an organization created by Dr. Mehmet Oz to improve physical fitness programs in public schools.
