David Novack

David Novack, has been a producer, post supervisor, and associate producer for a number of documentary films and television series, including the historical documentary, “Songs of Odessa,” the acclaimed Showtime/United Nations series, What’s Going On and PBS/WGBH’s Frontline.

Mr. Novack wrote, produced and directed the feature documentary Burning the Future: Coal in America, which opened in theaters, aired internationally, and has earned awards at numerous festivals in the US, Asia and Europe. In 2008, Burning the Future earned the prestigious IDA Pare Lorentz award for social documentary filmmaking and the Society of Environmental Journalism’s first place for in-depth television reporting.

Mr. Novack has been honored to participate in the American Documentary Showcase, traveling with the film to Ukraine and China. This program is funded by the US Department of State and administered by the University Film and Video Association.

Mr. Novack has lectured at dozens of at universities and appeared on radio and television programs around the world.

Most recently, Mr. Novack produced Kimjongilia, a documentary about N. Korean refugees that premiered at the 2009 Sundance Film Festival and enjoyed a theatrical run at the International Documentary Association’s Docuweeks Theatrical Showcase. “Kimjongilia” has aired internationally and won the Best Film awards at the One World Festival Brussels of the Human Rights and Democracy Network.

In audio post, Mr. Novack has enjoyed a successful career as a re-recording mixer/sound designer, recently adding a major new opera by Roger Waters to his credits. Mr. Novack received a Bachelors of Science in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and a degree in music from Berklee College of Music.
