President, Kendall College of Art and Design

David Rosen is the former Senior Vice President of Woodbury University and Interim Head of the University of Maine at Machias. Currently, he serves as the President of Kendall College of Art and Design (KCAD) in Grand Rapids, MI. In the year and half since taking office, he has created collaborative partnerships with innovative organizations such as ArtPrize, StartGarden, Material ConneXion, TED, and Midwest UX. He has guided KCAD through a merger with the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts and a campus expansion that achieved LEED Gold certification. He has also helped start a BFA program in collaborative design as well as Wege Prize, a regional collegiate design contest focused on solving wicked problems, and the IMMER5E program with Grand Rapids’ public schools, which uses design thinking to teach all subjects. KCAD is grounded in a philosophy of talent development that includes all members of the institution and all regional stakeholders. For students, that means pursuing impact over excellence and producing work that can shape the region’s future and set a national example for positive and lasting change.
