David Royko

Psychologist; Director of Family Mediation Services; Writer (autism, music, children of divorce); Ex-Drummer; Gluten-Eater.

David Royko is a licensed clinical psychologist, director of Family Mediation Services of Chicago's Circuit Court of Cook County, and writer. His work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Parents Magazine, New York Times, Chicago Reader, Village Voice, Chicago Sun Times, Bluegrass Unlimited, and No Depression Magazine, among other print and web publications. In 2002, Dr. Royko received the Print Media award from the International Bluegrass Music Association, and has produced two books and an e-book, on the subjects of children and divorce, his parents, and his son’s severe autism (The Chronicles of Ben). Dr. Royko has appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox, WGN, and WTTW television and radio news outlets on the topics of music, autism, divorce, and his father, the late columnist Mike Royko. Dr. Royko co-hosted the radio show, Royko’s Shrink Radio, and wrote “Hit Me With Your Best Shot,” about his son’s move into a residential educational setting, for the National Public Radio program, This American Life. He has adult twins, Jake and Ben, and lives in the Chicago area with his wife, Karen.
