I was born in Brooklyn, NY, and attended the State University of New York at Albany where I graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa in 1976. I went to the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, graduating in 1980, and did my postgraduate residency training in the specialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology at N.Y.U. Bellevue Medical Center. I was awarded the Lyman Barton Memorial for the graduating resident with honors in 1984. From 1984 until 1990, I maintained an active role in resident training and clinic administration at N.Y. Downtown Hospital, while also establishing a private practice. In 1990 I became partners with Dr. Dena Harris in creating SoHo OB/GYN, a women’s healthcare center.

I am affiliated with N.Y.U. Langone Medical Center, where I'm a Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and with N.Y. Downtown Hospital. I have been an advocate for improvements in women’s healthcare and reproductive freedom all of my professional life. I am a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, am board-certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology since 1986, and am a member of the New York Academy of Medicine. I am also credentialed by the North American Menopause Society as a NAMS Menopause Practitioner.
