Dirk Schulze-Makuch is Professor at the School of the Environment at Washington State University. The major focus of his research is planetary habitability and astrobiology, a subject on which he published 5 books and more than 100 scientific papers. Prior to his engagement at Washington State University he was a faculty member at the University of Texas at El Paso and a faculty fellow at the Goddard Space Flight Center. In 2010 he received the Friedrich-Wilhelm-Bessel Award from the Humboldt Foundation for extraordinary achievements in the field of theoretical biology.
