Writer, single dadblogger, vocational itinerant

Doug French is a writer, single dad, and vocational itinerant who has been laid off three times in a row. He began writing his personal blog, Laid-Off Dad, in 2003, after Job #2 cut him loose. He and his ex-wife divorced in 2008 and began writing When The Flames Go Up, a blog about co-parenting after divorce, in July 2010. Because it took that long for the dust to settle. They share 50/50 custody of their two young sons and live seven blocks apart in Upstate Manhattan.

Doug's writing has appeared in about a dozen websites, including DadCentric, MamaPop, and BloggingStocks, and three blogthologies: Things I Learned About My Dad, edited by Heather Armstrong, Sleep is For the Weak, edited by Rita Arens, and Kirtsy Takes A Bow, edited by Laura Mayes.

Doug is not the mayor of Rye, New York. But he would like to run against him, just to see what sort of mayhem it would cause.
