Dr. Brad R. Weiner

Chemistry Professor and Dean, College of Natural Sciences, University of Puerto Rico

Dr. Brad R. Weiner serves as the Dean of the College of Natural Sciences and a Professor of Chemistry at the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras, and is the islandwide Project Director for the Puerto Rico Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR). Through his role in PR-EPSCoR and as Dean, he is active in many university and government level committees for the development of Science and Technology in Puerto Rico. Dr. Weiner spent a year away from academia in 2004, serving as the Director of the Division of Higher Education for NASA, based at Headquarters in Washington, D.C.

Dr. Weiner received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Chemistry from Grinnell College in 1981, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of California - Davis in 1986, and served as a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at the Naval Research Laboratory prior to joining the faculty at the University of Puerto Rico in 1988. Dr. Weiner maintains an active research program utilizing laser-based techniques to study the dynamics of chemical reactions relevant to the atmosphere, materials science, and more recently, nanotechnology. He is the author and/or co-author of over 92 peer-reviewed publications and 5 patents.
