Dr. Daniel Hsu

Expert in Eastern medicine, nutrition, wellness, and culture. nyacuhealth.com

A renowned New York-based expert in Eastern medicine and wellness, Dr. Daniel Hsu provides a healthcare option aligned with the most progressive thinking in medicine today. He is among the first to have earned the degree of Doctor of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (DAOM) from an institution accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). This clinical doctoral designation is held by less than 1% of practitioners worldwide, including only a handful in the U.S.

Dr. Hsu is also unique in that he straddles two cultures, American and Chinese, and understands the nuances of both. A native bilingual of English and Mandarin Chinese, he is adept at elucidating even the more esoteric concepts within Chinese medicine for Americans, bridging the cultural divide in a way that few others can. He uses this ability to educate his patients as well as students as a teacher of Traditional Chinese Medicine at acupuncture colleges and seminars.

Dr. Hsu’s practice, comprised of two beautifully appointed New York AcuHealth Acupuncture Centers in Midtown Manhattan, provides patients with highly customized care. Applying an approach that integrates both Eastern and Western medicine, Dr. Hsu works with patients to determine a course of treatment which, based on the individual, may include acupuncture, Chinese and other types of herbal medicine, and a range of other traditional Eastern modalities. He also offers guidance on Eastern diet and nutrition, lifestyle, philosophy, fitness, martial arts and practices such as tai chi and qi gong in support of the patient’s long-term health.

An extensive educational background is the bedrock of Dr. Hsu’s medical practice. One of the first Americans to be board- certified in Oriental Medicine, he is double board-certified as a Diplomate in both Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology from the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, the most advanced level of certification available. He received his DAOM from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM) in San Diego and holds a Master of Science in Traditional Oriental Medicine (MSTOM) from PCOM in New York City. Dr. Hsu is also certified by the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM) in Clean Needle Technique, and state-certified as a Licensed Acupuncturist in New York. He received his undergraduate degree from New York University College of Arts and Science.

During his Doctoral fellowship, Dr. Hsu completed preceptorships in the Departments of Anesthesiology, Pain Management, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Surgery, and Orthopaedics at Bellevue Hospital Center and New York University Langone Medical Center in New York. Additionally, Dr. Hsu practiced in the Taipei City Hospital’s Chinese Medicine Branch in Taiwan. There he researched acupuncture with renowned doctors in the field, rotated through the Departments of Internal Medicine, Gynecology, Dermatology, Traumatology and Pediatrics, and clinically supervised interns in the Acupuncture Department.

A credit to his profession, Dr. Hsu is proud to serve as Team Chair and Site
Visitor for the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM), the only national agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education to accredit standalone programs in acupuncture and Oriental medicine. The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM), which administers national board certification examinations, sought his expertise in formulating questions for new examinations.

A lifelong fitness enthusiast, Dr. Hsu is a former athlete with background in gymnastics, wrestling, diving, cheerleading, martial arts and personal training. He continues to enjoy diving as well as boating and skiing, and lives in New York City and East Hampton with his wife and two children.
