Dr. Ellen Libby

Author of <em>The Favorite Child</em>

Dr. Ellen Weber Libby, author of The Favorite Child, is nationally recognized for promoting an understanding of family dynamics generated by favoritism. The Favorite Child reflects her belief that each person’s core contains feelings related to being chosen, not chosen, or overlooked. Dr. Libby, a licensed psychologist, maintains a private practice in Washington, D.C., where she has spent over 60,000 hours working with clients, individually and in groups. Applying her expertise in family dynamics to ongoing individual and group therapy, Dr. Libby supervises therapists and leads professional workshops.

Dr. Libby received her doctorate from the University of Maryland in 1977. Since completing her doctorate, she has devoted her professional life to fostering the psychological well-being of individuals, couples, and families. Prior to beginning her private practice, Dr. Libby was the clinical director of a mental health center serving children and their families and on the faculty at the University of Maryland.
