Dr. José Vázquez Barquet

Dr. José Vázquez Barquet is SubwayRestaurants’ Development Agent (master franchisee) in Puerto Rico, with over 225 stores in the island. He is also Vice President of Operations for Subway Puerto Rico, and personal owner of 17 restaurants. Prior to this, Vázquez worked in Academia as VP of Finance and then as Academic Dean of the Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico. Mr. Vázquez is the 2015-2016 President of the Puerto Rico Chamber of Commerce (CCPR). He has been an active member of CCPR since 2000 and has actively participated in several committees. He was elected and served as member of the Board of Directors from 2006-08. He was then reelected and served as Treasurer from 2012-13. Previous to his experiences in academia and as a businessman, Vázquez served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He later worked in private industry as Senior Financial Analyst for Lockheed Martin Aerospace in New Orleans, Louisiana, and as Financial Manager of Kraft Foods USA Dairy Group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Vázquez was President of the Small Business Technology Development Center’s External Board (SBTDC) from 2007-2011, and is a graduate of the Price-Babson Symposium for Entrepreneurship Educators (SEE) at Babson College. He is also an Independent Director of the Board of Directors of the Santander Asset Management Family of Funds. Mr. Vazquez has a Ph.D. in Management of Higher Education from the University of Pennsylvania and an MBA in Finance from the University of North Dakota.
