Dr. Kevin J. Tracey, MD

President and CEO of the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at the North Shore-LIJ Health System in New York

Dr. Kevin Tracey is the President and CEO of the Feinstein Institute for Medical Research at the North Shore-LIJ Health System in New York. Having received his medical degree from Boston University, he trained in neurosurgery with Professor Russel Patterson at Cornell University Medical College. His unusual career path combining brain surgery with basic immunology produced a series of innovative discoveries that have spawned clinical trials, startup companies and new scientific paradigms.

Dr. Tracey published many of his discoveries in widely-acclaimed papers in prudent journals including Science, Nature and others. His principle discoveries have defined how the immune system can cause disease by attacking the body's own tissues, and how the brain can control the damage by switching off the process. These discoveries helped cement Dr. Tracey’s reputation in the forefront of his professions.

His discovery of the brain reflex controlling the immune system pioneered a new field of bioelectronic medicine. To develop thus concept in the clinic, he co-founded SetPoint Medical, a company focused on using implantable nerve stimulators to treat patients with debilitating inflammatory diseases -- such as rheumatoid arthritis -- using proprietary implantable devices based on the principles envisioned by Dr. Tracey.

Dr. Tracey is married and the father of four daughters. He lives in Connecticut.
