Dr. Robert Grant, MD, MPH

Chief Medical Officer, San Francisco AIDS Foundation; Investigator, Gladstone Institutes; 30 years’ experience in HIV research & clinical care

Dr. Robert Grant, MD, MPH, has worked in HIV research and clinical care since 1983. He is the Chief Medical Officer at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, the Betty Jean and Hiro Ogawa Investigator at the Gladstone Institutes, and a Professor of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). He led the iPrEx trial of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention, the multinational study which played a pivotal role in the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's approval of Truvada for PrEP in 2012. Dr. Grant has also studied HIV superinfection, HIV drug resistance, and HIV therapies. Dr. Grant completed bachelor's degrees in biological sciences and Latin American studies at Stanford University, a master's of public health in epidemiology at the University of California, Berkeley, and an MD at UCSF. He lives in San Francisco with his dog Tooloulou and cockatiel Picachoo.
