Professor Robin Wood is a renowned South African physician-scientist who has been on the front lines of HIV/AIDS research, treatment and prevention for nearly two decades. He is currently the Director of South Africa’s Desmond Tutu HIV Centre, pioneering innovative treatment and research strategies at the epicenter of the HIV/tuberculosis co-infection epidemic. He has also led the development of a number of South African national guidelines regarding the use of antiretrovirals. Dr. Wood is currently involved in five NIH-funded research grants, as well as more than a dozen other infectious disease-related studies. Wood’s latest research focuses on the incredibly high rates of TB infection among South Africa’s children and the intersection of TB and HIV in his home country.
