Dr. Saud Anwar

Town Council Member South Windsor, Connecticut (Former Mayor)

Saud Anwar is currently serving as Town Council Member for South Windsor, who has served as the Mayor of South Windsor from 2013 to 2015. During his tenure the town had seen unprecedented increase in jobs and economic development. He is a physician who specializes in Lung Diseases and Critical Care Medicine. Currently, he serves as Chair of the Department of Internal Medicine of Manchester Memorial and Rockville General Hospitals.  Dr. Anwar is involved in humanitarian and peace initiatives nationally and internationally. He is frequently invited to consult for our government and has organized medical missions for disaster relief. His efforts have been recognized at the state and federal levels and by several professional organizations. Dr. Anwar has received citations for his service to the State from Governor, Attorney General, Secretary of State and members of the Connecticut General Assembly. His services to the community have been recognized by the American Red Cross for the September 11th response. He has been recipient of FBI Community leadership award, by Director of FBI, Robert Mueller III. He has been the recipient of the of Anti Defamation League’s Torch of Liberty Award at the Centennial Gala. Dr. Anwar has testified to the 109th Congress- Committee on Homeland Security, and has been invited to speak on homeland security issues by the Department of Homeland Security and also by the Office of Secretary Napolitano as well as the British Department of Communities and Local Government. He was the chief coordinator- Conference on Understanding Radicalization and DeRadicalization Strategies, Hartford, CT. (Live broadcast through out the world). He has been part of the peace missions to the Middle East and South Asia. He has been part of medical missions for the Haiti disaster after the earthquake, and also for earthquake in Pakistan.  In addition, Dr. Anwar is an expert on international affairs. He is frequently invited to appear on national and international television. These have included: CNN Wolf Blitzer, CNN Deborah Fayereck, CNN Susan Candiotti, NBC- 30, CTN, Fox-61, Vectone TV –UK, Geo TV- Forum, and Voice of America- International. Dr. Anwar is married to Yusra Anis-Anwar, a specialist in Hypertension and Vascular Diseases and Internal Medicine and is father to two sons Taha and Taseen.
