Edna Adan Ismail is the former First Lady of Somalia. She is the former Minister of Social Affairs and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Somaliland. Adan is an advocate for women’s rights across Africa and the founder of the Edna Adan University Teaching Hospital in Somaliland. She is the recent recipient of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing Renfield Foundation Award for Global Women’s Health.
