Elizabeth Abbott

Writer, animal advocate, Animal Protection Party (Canada) candidate

Elizabeth Abbott is a writer and historian with a special interest in women’s issues, the lives of animals and the environment. Her books have been translated into 20 languages, and include Sugar: A Bittersweet History, Haiti: A Shattered Nation and the best-selling A History of Celibacy, A History of Mistresses, and A History of Marriage, the three volumes of her historical relationship trilogy. Her most recent book is Dogs and Underdogs: Finding Happiness at Both ends of the Leash. Abbott has a McGill University PhD in History, and is a Senior Research Associate at Trinity College, University of Toronto, where from 1991 to 2004 she was Dean of Woman. In Canada’s 2015 federal election, she was an Animal Protection Party candidate. Her website is www.elizabethabbott.ca
