Elizabeth Griffin Wilson

Elizabeth Griffin Wilson is the senior manager for marine wildlife at Oceana, based out of Washington, D.C. Wilson leads the science efforts for Oceana’s international campaigns to protect and restore populations of marine wildlife, including sharks and sea turtles. She has an extensive background in science and policy related to migratory marine wildlife in the Atlantic Ocean and is a member of the Highly Migratory Species Advisory Panel to the U.S. Government.

Since joining Oceana in 2006, Wilson has done extensive work on mitigating the impact of trade on marine species, reducing fisheries subsidies through the World Trade Organization, and improving the sustainability of fisheries through international fisheries management bodies such as the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT).

Wilson received a master’s degree in environmental management, with a concentration in coastal environmental management, from Duke University in 2003 for research conducted on international cetacean bycatch issues. Before joining Oceana, Wilson worked for the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission, the National Aquarium in Baltimore, Md., the Environmental Defense Fund and as a consultant to the World Wildlife Fund.
